Like mentioned in my last blog (click here for more), my husband and I moved into our rental in May. Before renting the home to us, our landlord spent a lot of time updating the downstairs, so the house is completely updated for the most part.

Although, in our pirate ship of an upstairs, there is a half bath that looked as if it had not been touched in many many years. I'm talking yellow and blue laminate floor and blue painted wall tiles! Since our landlord spent time updating the rest of the home, she did have intentions of updating this space. I found that out when looking through our garage and finding bead board and other items with sticky notes labeled "Upstairs Bathroom."

Since the items we needed to update the bathroom were already there, I took my chances and asked my husband and our landlord if making renovations would be okay. (Obviously, I got the OK!)

My husband then began the process of updating the half bathroom upstairs. He started with removing the sink and toilet so he could install the bead board over the old painted wall tile. Once the bead board was in and painted, the new gray laminate flooring was laid right on top of the old yellow and blue flooring! From there it was paint touch ups and the smaller details. All-in-all it took about a week to finish.

Now I know what your thinking - why spend time and money updating a rental that you don't own? Well, I think we got lucky this time. In any other circumstance, I don't know if we would have done it.

There have been some smaller items we did, like change out some old light fixtures upstairs and update some outlets and switches on the wall. Would you be willing to update small parts of your rental? Let me know what you think!
Until next time!
