Controversial Topic: Gold Fixtures Are Just a Trend and Will Once Again Go Out of Style

If you know me, you know I’m a gold girlie. From the jewelry I personally wear to the lamps in my house, I often use gold as the perfect accent. But something I’ve thought since gold faucets and hardware came back in style, is that they will soon go out again. Controversial topic, I know!

Let me dive a little deeper… I don’t think all gold is bad, like I said before, I have more gold jewelry than any other metal, and I love to use it in my own home, just selectively.

I think gold looks great for cabinet and drawer pulls, whether it’s in your kitchen or on your dresser. These are also really easy items that can be changed just about whenever you feel like it! But when it comes to shower facets and toilet paper holders, it’s a big no from me. To start, gold ages itself much faster than a chrome fixture, and soon you will have a brassy looking faucet that is really hard to clean. You have to be really careful where you place gold, because it ages itself really fast.

For example, I have a past client that used chrome fixtures and pulls all throughout their home, but decided to go gold in the primary bathroom. Four years later and the house still looks great, but all of the gold in the primary bathroom has aged itself compared to the rest of the home. It now looks dated, and they will most likely want to update it once again here soon. This also probably has something to do with the humidity levels in the bathroom causing quicker aging than normal.

I’m all for doing whatever makes you happy! But if you’re looking for something that will stand the test of time - stick with the classics. Chrome fixtures will always be there.

Where do I have gold in my home? You’ll find a lot of it on my lamps and other light fixtures, and also on my dresser drawer pulls! I love to add gold in small places too with picture frames and hanging art.

Another controversial topic, but just like jewelry, it’s okay to mix and match! (Maybe I’ll get into this more in another blog…) Do you have a chrome kitchen sink faucet but want gold pulls? Do it! It’s more common than you think.

Until next time! -hg
